Experimental Forest

Description: Although part of it suffered during the huge Hayman Fire of 2002 (the largest forest fire in Colorado's recent history), the Experimental Forest still hosts many mountain birds, including the elusive Flammulated Owl, which can be heard here after dark during May and June.

Habitat: Mixed-Conifer Forest

Directions: Take US 24 to Woodland Park. Turn right on CO 67 and head 8.7 miles to the Experiment Forest entrance on the right (just past Manitou Lake, see below).
