Sambrito Marsh


Description: Part of Navajo State Park, this marsh can be accessed by a nature trail that provides good viewing. Use a spotting scope is best to identify birds far out on the water. During migration, many birds can be found here including Sage Sparrow and Sage Thrasher. Watch for good numbers of hawks, especially if you are here in the winter. Deer sometimes graze in the fields nearby.

Habitat: Marsh, Sagebrush, Grassland/Prairie

Directions: From CO 151 less than one mile east of the La Plata County line turn south on CR 988. This road goes directly to the marsh where there is a parking area, a restroom and a picnic kiosk.
