The Colorado Birding Trail is Expanding! There are currently approximately 200 public sites in 18 counties nominated for the Southwest region. These are primarily based on Colorado Field Ornithologists (CFO) Colorado County Birding web site www.coloradocountybirding.com. Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory and private contractors will evaluate these and other sites to identify what will be included on the Southwest portion of the official birding trail. Any sites that do not meet the criteria for the birding trail will be included on CFO’s County Birding website. If you know of a site in the southwest, public or private, which you believe warrants a spot on the Colorado Birding Trail, submit a nomination form The southeast portion of the Colorado Birding Trail reflects the incredible diversity of resources and users in that portion of the state. We would like to build on this accomplishment by inviting participation and input from a broad range of stakeholders in the Southwest. We need insight from many interested parties to continue to make the trail a success. Meetings with Public Land Agencies were held from November 2007 to February 2008. A series of public informational meetings will be held around the southwest in May (Durango on May 8th; Gunnison, Monte Vista, Montrose areas the week of May 26th). We invite you to attend these meetings and/or provide verbal and written input into the site nomination process. Contact Jennifer Kleffner Watchable Wildlife Coordinator – Southwest region at 970.375.6704 or jennifer.kleffner AT state.co.us to be notified of upcoming meetings. |
